New Year Reflections

This year has been an interesting one.  My life shifted completely, mostly for the better.  Quick recap:

  • Graduated high school
  • Got married a few days later
  • Started college a month or two after that
  • Defined Half Life into two separate novels
  • Wrote around 19,000 words of the first novel during NaNoWriMo
  • Turned 20, ending the teenage angst years
  • Enjoyed our second Christmas in this apartment but our first as a married couple

All in all, this year was filled with lots of stress, but the rewards were worth it.  Wedding plans were especially tedious, as most married women (and their men who had to deal with their semi-often emotional breakdowns) will understand.  Getting from high school into college so quickly definitely shaved years off my life, but I learned a lot of things and I don’t regret pushing to get into my last semester classes.  This year has been great because of all the things I’ve learned to overcome.

Unfortunately, many of my friends went through one of the worst years of their life, and I feel a little guilty for all my positivity.  For them, I hope 2011 is a better year filled with good accomplishments that at least balance out the certain bad.

I have some resolutions for 2011, but they’re all vague and long-term.

  • Work out consistently
  • Get to where I eat fast food once a month if not less
  • Get to 190 lbs, but 200 will do
  • Try my hardest to get As in all my classes
  • Be honest to my emotions and avoid stubbornly staying in foolish situations
  • Learn about and read the Bible more
  • Make smart business decisions

It’s a long, vague list, but I think it’s doable for a whole 365 days.  Let’s hope I can say that, on the eve of 2012, when the world ends, I made some pretty good choices and learned some pretty interesting things.

How about y’all?  How was your year?  Was it good?  Bad?  Not too eventful?  Far too eventful?

PS: If the world ends in 2012 then I’m an old, very fluffy bunny.  True facts.

  1. I had sort of vague goals for my 2011 too. Write more (yeah, right), eat less, lose weight, yada yada. Here’s what I decided to try and do before ’10 ended:

    1. Get back on the Atkins Nutritional Approach and lose excess weight. After losing enough weight so my back doesn’t hurt…
    2. Add regular, vigorous exercise to condition my body.
    3. Before 2011 is over, RECLAIM MY BODY FROM THE MIDWEST THAT RUINED IT.
    4. Finish at LEAST one novel and pray about whether to publish on Kindle or submit to lit agents before doing that.

So far, what’s actually happened is a lot different, but the ones which I was definitive on (the weight loss) has happened. The writing… yeah, that’s another topic, another day.

Good luck and God bless. Oh, btw, I got a certificate in Biblical Study Methods about 15 years ago. I’m really rusty, but I’m always willing to help a fellow Follower find their way. Let me know if I can help.
